Summer Taiko Intensives
Kenny Endo and the Taiko Center of the Pacific offer intensive courses in Taiko drumming IN ADDITION to (three) three-week long summer sessions. The Taiko intensives are for those who want a concentrated study in Taiko. Enrollment is limited.

As a solo instrument or in combination with other instruments, the shinobue provides a wonderful addition to taiko groups and because of it’s high range, can cut through the sounds of the drums. This workshop will be geared for people of all levels. Basic scales, exercises, and practice pieces will be introduced. #6 utabue (tuned) will be the preferred instrument to use in this workshop. SHIMEDAIKO features rhythms and technique found in Edo Matsuri Bayashi, the festival music of old Tokyo. The techniques learned in this class can be applied to all types of taiko drumming. | Course No. #132ASHU308 Course Fee: $175OD |

Basics for performing on the ‘big drum’ will include stance, grip, hitting techniques, training tips, maximizing sounds, and relaxing. Traditional Kabuki patterns on the odaiko will also be introduced. A practice odaiko piece will be taught focusing on fundamentals, simple improvisation, base beat patterns, and becoming more comfortable and dynamic at performing the odaiko. |
