TSUGARU SHAMISEN and TAIKO
Don’t miss this rare meeting of two great masters.
Kenny Endo teams up with Hiromitsu Agatsuma, winner of the All Japan Tsugaru Shamisen Competition at the age of 14, and two time winner of the prestigious National Tsugaru Shamisen Competition in 1995 and 1996. In 2001, his album “Agatsuma” was named Traditional Japanese Music Album of the Year at the Japan Gold Disc Awards. He continues to explore the traditional aspects of his instrument, as well as avidly experimenting in fusing its sound with diverse musical genre.

Yosakoi is a unique contemporary style of Japanese dance that was started in 1954 on Shikoku Island. It is a modern rendition of Obon. Yosakoi is highly energetic and utilizes traditional Japanese dance moves in a contemporary way. The workshop will be led by visiting guest artist from Nagasaki, Japan, Hideko Mukae. Hideko Mukae is a dancer, choreographer, and yoga instructor. She has choreographed for many award winning cheer and Yosakoi dance troupes. A FUN and GREAT WORKOUT!

Rhythm Summit (Kenny Endo, Dean Taba, Noel Okimoto) is hosting an inspiring and educational clinics at Hawai’i Day of Percussion on April 6, 2013 (Sat) 9am-12noon. Kenny Endo’s Taiko Center of the Pacific will also be performing at “PERCUSS-A-PALOOZA” 1pm-4pm, an exciting afternoon of ensemble performances by percussionists of all ages.

Lai Yi-Chieh is having a Guzheng Concert with Kenny Endo on taiko and Yoojin Cancio on percussion.
Guzheng (literally meaning “ancient zither”) is a beautiful and vibrant instrument which has far more than 2000 years of history in music of China. This concert combines old and new, East and West, with world premierees of new works for guzheng by UHM composers. Come join us for this wonderful concert!
